Deafblind UK

Description

Deafblind UK offers comprehensive services to deafblind people, their support assistants and other professionals. These include training in communication and rehabilitation skills, a free 24 hour helpline staffed by specially trained operators, a regional network of staff and volunteers, a varied leisure programme and a range of publications in different reading formats.

The National Centre for Deafblindness has recently opened in Peterborough. Special features of the centre include a guidance system to make it totally accessible to deafblind people, a publications department, an information and research centre, and conference facilities.

Deafblind UK run successful education programmes which aim to give able-bodied students an unforgettable insight into deafblindness, while encouraging a positive attitude and inclusive approach to all disabilities. It also gives them an opportunity to understand people with disabilities whilst recognising and valuing their differences.

Rainbow Court, also in Peterborough, is Deafblind UK's National Training and Rehabilitation Centre, which offers long and short-term accommodation, respite and leisure and activity breaks. Also based there is The Karten centre, which offers training for deafblind people on specially adapted computers.
