Council for Voluntary Service - Cambridge

Other or former names: Cambridge CVS, Cambridge Voluntary Sector Handbook

Description

A local umbrella organisation that represents and supports the interests of voluntary organisations, community groups and local charities.

Its aim is to support and enable voluntary and community groups, in and around Cambridge, to provide effective services that meet the needs of local people.

It provides advice, information, training and practical services to help voluntary and community groups with their work.

It is part of a national network, keeping it in touch with national policy developments that affect local groups.

At a local level, it represents the voluntary sector in discussions with the County, City and District Councils, health authorities and other bodies.

It encourages more-effective consultation with the voluntary sector by local policy-makers and raise issues of concern.

It also promotes more effective working within the voluntary sector by bringing together groups to share information about each other's work and issues of mutual concern.

If you are a Cambs charity or group it is well worth visiting their website and considering joining them as a member. Membership is free for organisations with a budget less than £1000/year and low cost to other ones.

They publish a newsletter and the Cambridge Voluntary Sector Handbook and you can even hire their minibus.
