82 Akeman Street Community Centre

Description

The 82 Akeman Street Community room provides a local meeting space large enough for up to 20 people. There is a cooker, microwave and fridge with tea and coffee making facilities. Free internet access is available on Tuesday mornings, but needs to be booked in advance.

As well as a ground-floor meeting room, there is a small garden that can be used in the summer months. A hearing-loop system is installed in the downstairs meeting room. The toilet facilities have been adapted for disabled people and all signage is duplicated in braille.

There is ramped access to the main entrance and garden area and the ground floor is accessible for wheelchair users. Also there is limited parking outside on the forecourt, but no disabled bays

A number of local community-development workers are based at the centre.

There is a regular programme of activities at the centre including Cambridge Credit Union, Youth Groups. Bengali Health Project, English Classes, Over 50's Group etc. The Arbury Neighbourhood Community Project is also based at the centre, which produces a quarterly newsletter and organises various events in and around the Centre.
